365 exciting days awaiting us January 2, 2010

Let´s make it a year with authentic values!
How about making it a  year closer to nature?

Then join us for a survival tour on 16-18th July in the Belgian woods. We will be guided by a professional guide from the Aquascope in Virelles, camping outdoors and learning techniques to live with what nature can offers us.

Or explore with us the precious world of permaculture, doing a certified permaculture design course at the Ecocentre in Périgord, France, in August.

Find out more about permaculture on Ekopedia.

In any case, enjoy 2010!

Once again the Aussies show their inventiveness when it comes to environmental protection. After banning plastic bags some years ago, the little town of Bundanoon, southwest of Sydney, has become Australia-first ban on commercially bottled water.

Free water fountains will be installed in the village to replace the bottled H2O.

Good practice: Public beehives and learning gardens October 2, 2009

The commune of Etterbeek in Brussels has set up three public beehives, where volunteers are trained by a passionate beekeeper: They learn how to care for a bee colony of 20,000-60,000 bees and how to harvest honey. But looking at bees, there is so much more to discover: The nutritive values of honey -by the way: never drop honey in boiling milk as it loses its enzymes when heated. Or the maintenance, heating and cooling of a beehive, that can be an example of eco-friendl y building practices. An interesting article about this topic can be found here http://www.ornl.gov/sci/buildings/2010/Session%20PDFs/3_New.pdf

Another great project is the public learning garden Villette in Paris, that has been set up to teach eco-gardening techniques to young and old. To be discovered from May to October, unfortunately only in French so far.

In the heart of Puisaye, in Yonne, Burgundy (France), a team of fifty people has taken on an extraordinary feat : to build a castle using the very same techniques and materials used in the Middle Ages.

The materials needed for the construction of the castle – wood, stone, earth, sand and clay – sustainable construction par excellence!

As they are looking for volunteers it is your chance to learn about all this hands on!

When you go, feel free to share your pictures and experience with us!!
